Slate Roofs in Eccles

They're tingles, small strips of lead or copper used to hold a refixed slate in place without disturbing the slates above. One or two are normal. Many across one roof usually mean the original nails are failing everywhere and re-slating is getting close.

Welsh slate has a long track record and matches many period roofs in the area. Good-quality imported slate can also perform well and costs less. The right choice depends on your budget, the look you want and whether you're matching neighbouring roofs. We'll explain the difference and price both.

Yes. Slate bay roofs are small but fiddly, and the lead flashing where they meet the main wall is a common leak point. We refix or replace slates, renew the lead junction and check the little bay gutter while we're there.

Where they're sound, yes. We sort slates during stripping, keep the best for the front elevation and make up any shortfall with matching reclaimed or new slate, so the finished roof looks consistent from the street and keeps the character of the house.

It's possible, but tiles are heavier and may not suit a period house or be acceptable in a conservation area. On a slate terrace they can look out of place. We'll advise on what suits your home and, if you want to compare, price both options.
